Rebels Blunt Archers to reach Cup Semis

Coca-Cola Rhondda moved into their 10 consecutive National Cup Semi Finals when they easily disposed of UWIC Archers 85 – 48 at the Rhondda Fach Sports Centre.

What was thought going to be a close encounter for the valley outfit was ultimately decided in the opening seven minutes when the Rebels totally shut out their opponents to open up a 21 – 0 lead which the visitors never really recovered from.

Three pointers from Kaznica and Copeland in the opening plays laid the foundation for the valley team to build up a formidable lead, while at the other end U WIC nervously looked rushed and bothered by some tough defence from the Rebels.

Copeland gave former Rebels’ player Stef Collins and prolific scorer a torrid time and restricted her throughout the game to just 3 points , Archer other Former Rebels Ilze Zekite also had a poor return against the team she was with for 6 seasons with just 4 points.

The Rebels led at the half 43 – 21 and the Rebels coasted in the second half to run up convincing winners. For the Rebels the scoring was spread Player Coach Andrea Congreaves put in a majestic performance top scoring for the Rebels with 22 points and also pulling down 15 points, Brown and Gandzalova netted 17 points while Copeland chipped in with 14 points.

The Rebels turn their attention back to Europe this week, when they travel to France on Tuesday to take on Challes Les Eaux in the return match, The Rebels lost by 5 at home three weeks ago and they will be hopeful of stretching the French team again.
